Alexandru Lahovari National College, Secondary education institution in Râmnicu Vâlcea, Romania
Alexandru Lahovari National College is a secondary school located on General Praporgescu Street in Râmnicu Vâlcea. The architect Nicolae Ghica-Budești designed the building with three distinct wings containing modern laboratories and classrooms that serve students in grades 9 through 12.
The school was founded in 1891 as a single-grade institution and expanded to four grades by 1894. It received its current name in 1899 and was later designated as a national historic monument.
The secondary school has shaped education in the city for more than a century and draws students from surrounding communities. The institution reflects traditional teaching values while adapting to modern educational approaches.
The school is centrally located on a street that is easy to walk to and accessible by public transport. Visitors interested in touring the grounds should plan to arrive outside regular school hours.
During World War II, the military converted part of the building into a medical facility while classes continued in other sections. This dual purpose reflects how the institution adapted to extraordinary times.
