Pădurea de liliac Ponoarele, Natural reserve in Ponoarele, Romania.
The 20-hectare forest reserve contains wild lilac trees growing on crystalline schists and limestone formations in the Mehedinti Plateau Geopark.
The natural reserve received official protection status through Law No. 5 of March 6, 2000, which regulates protected areas in Romania.
Since 1965, the local community organizes an annual Lilac Festival in May, celebrating the forest through traditional folklore performances.
Visitors can reach the forest by following the communal road DC57 from Ponoarele village to Delureni, or by taking marked hiking trails.
This forest represents the only preserved wild lilac woodland in Romania, thriving under specific sub-Mediterranean climate conditions at 500 meters altitude.
