Pilj Waterfall, Cascade waterfall in Stara Planina mountains, Serbia.
Pilj Waterfall is a two-stage cascade in the Stara Planina mountains that drops roughly 64 meters total. The falling water creates a natural pool at the base where the current forms a swirling motion.
Geologists and mountaineers officially documented this waterfall in 2002 when it was added to Serbia's natural landmarks registry. The discovery brought attention to this previously overlooked site in the mountains.
The waterfall forms part of the southeastern Visok region's natural heritage, situated near the Bulgarian border within traditional Serbian mountain territory.
Reaching the waterfall requires a hiking trail of about 4 kilometers starting from Topli Do village. Bring proper footwear, water to drink, and allow enough time for the walk at a comfortable pace.
This waterfall sits below Pilj peak at roughly 1,450 meters elevation and remained largely unknown until the 21st century. Its hidden location at this height has kept it away from crowds and preserved its natural character.
