Kustendorf, Theme park in Užice, Serbia
Kustendorf is a theme park designed as a village with wooden structures built in traditional Serbian style. The buildings line narrow cobblestone streets and surround a central square dominated by a church, with art galleries, a cinema, restaurants, and lodging scattered throughout the layout.
Serbian filmmaker Emir Kusturica created this place between 2003 and 2004 initially as a film set for his movie "Life Is a Miracle." The village was later opened to visitors and evolved into a cultural meeting ground.
The village draws filmmakers and music enthusiasts who gather here for the annual festival celebrating independent cinema. Visitors can encounter local artists and experience performances by musicians from around the world.
The place is easy to explore on foot since all areas connect through the narrow pathways. Visitors can find dining at on-site restaurants, spend time in galleries, or stay overnight if they wish to extend their visit.
Throughout the village, street plaques honor notable figures, including a statue of Johnny Depp commemorating his 2010 visit. These unexpected tributes give the place an offbeat character.
