Armavir, Industrial city in Krasnodar Krai, Russia
Armavir sits on the left bank of the Kuban River in Krasnodar Krai and serves as the region's second-largest industrial hub after the capital. The city extends over several residential and factory districts where manufacturing plants and warehouses shape much of the skyline.
Armavir began in 1839 as Armyansky aul, founded by Cherkesogai Armenians who came from the Caucasus. Nine years later the settlement took the name Armavir after the ancient capital of Armenia.
The city takes its name from an ancient Armenian capital, reflecting the heritage of its earliest settlers. Today residents use the riverfront park for weekend walks and gatherings near the water.
The city can be reached by regional roads or by train, as it sits on a major railway line. Most factories and industrial zones concentrate in the southern and western parts, while residential areas lie mainly to the north.
The city hosts one of the region's oldest machinery plants, producing railway equipment since 1933. This factory supplies networks across southern Russia.
