Kamensk-Uralsky, Industrial city in Sverdlovsk Oblast, Russia
Kamensk-Uralsky is a city in Sverdlovsk Oblast, Russia, built where the Kamenka River flows into the Iset River. Metallurgical plants and aluminum factories occupy large parts of the area, with residential neighborhoods sitting between industrial zones.
The settlement began in 1701 as Kamensky Zavod, home to the first state iron foundry in the Urals that produced cannons for the Russian Empire. Railway lines opened in 1885, connecting the town to other trading centers.
The riverside areas developed into walking zones where locals spend weekends and enjoy small green spaces near the water. The name Kamensk comes from the Russian word "kamen," meaning stone, referring to the rocky riverbanks that once defined this landscape.
The city is accessible through rail connections that remain the main transport routes for goods and travelers today. Most public facilities are located in the central districts near the rivers.
During winter celebrations, local companies build ice sculptures and figures that are placed around the city. This tradition often coincides with the annual City Day festivities and brings residents out to the squares.
