Arnau Church, Medieval church in Rodniki, Russia
Arnau Church is a brick building constructed in Gothic style, standing near the Pregolya River in the Rodniki district. The structure displays tall windows and architectural features typical of northern European religious buildings from the 1300s.
The church was founded as a Catholic sanctuary in 1301 and was converted to Lutheran use during the Reformation period. This shift reflected the religious changes that swept through the East Prussian region over centuries.
The building reflects its role as a Catholic place of worship, then later as a Lutheran church, shaping how the space feels inside. Visitors sense the layers of faith that have passed through these brick walls over centuries.
The church sits about 8 kilometers east of Kaliningrad along Kaliningradskoye shosse. The building has been maintained by the Russian Orthodox Church since 2010 and remains accessible to visitors.
The churchyard holds the burial place of Theodor von Schön, an important Prussian official from the region's earlier history. Of the original medieval frescoes that once decorated the interior, only tiny fragments remain visible today.
