Rostec Arena, Football stadium in Kaliningrad, Russia
Rostec Arena is a football stadium on Oktyabrsky Island in Kaliningrad, with a two-tier structure and a perforated facade in blue and white aluminum. The building covers a large area near the river and holds more than thirty-five thousand seats under a movable roof.
Construction of the stadium began in September 2015 and went through several design revisions before completion in March 2018, just in time for the World Cup. The original plan called for a different shape, but the design was adjusted during the work to reduce costs and meet the deadline.
The stadium serves as the primary venue for FC Baltika Kaliningrad matches and represents the westernmost sports facility of the 2018 World Cup host cities.
The facility has security systems with hundreds of cameras and natural ventilation through the perforated facade, which helps air circulate even when the seats are full. Visitors should note that the stadium sits on an island and is reached by bridges, which can mean longer walking times during big matches.
The roof of the stadium can be adjusted in height after major events, a feature found in only a few sports facilities worldwide. This mechanical setup was designed to make the building more flexible for different uses and easier to maintain.
