Nanaysky District, Municipal district in Khabarovsk Krai, Russia.
Nanaysky District is a municipal district in Khabarovsk Krai, Russia, situated along the Amur River with its administrative center in the village of Troitskoye. The district is made up of scattered rural settlements separated by large expanses of forest, wetlands, and river terrain.
The district was established in 1934 and named after the Nanai people, who had long inhabited the Amur River region before any formal administrative boundaries were drawn. Its structure has remained largely unchanged since then, making it one of the older administrative units in Khabarovsk Krai.
The district takes its name from the Nanai people, an indigenous group who have lived and fished along the Amur River for centuries. Their craft traditions, including the use of fish skin to make clothing and decorative objects, can still be seen in local communities today.
Troitskoye is the only place in the district with basic services, so it is worth stocking up on supplies before heading out to more remote areas. Roads between settlements can be in poor condition depending on the season, so planning ahead is important.
Anyuysky National Park, located within the district, is one of the few protected areas in Russia where Amur tigers still roam in the wild. The park was only established in 1997, making it relatively recent compared to other protected areas in the country.
