Alexis Palace

Alexis Palace is a residential palace in Saint Petersburg featuring ornate reception rooms and craftsman-made ceilings. The building contains multiple grand halls, including the English Hall with stucco ceilings and decorative elements in the 16th-century style.

Architect Maximilian Messmacher designed and built this residence between 1882 and 1885 for Grand Duke Alexei Alexandrovich, who commanded the Russian Imperial Navy. The structure incorporated earlier architectural elements from the site while employing French chateau design principles.

The palace now functions as part of the Saint Petersburg Music House, with the English Hall hosting classical concerts and cultural events. Visitors experience the ornate interiors during performances that take place regularly throughout the year in these grand spaces.

The building sits on the Moika River Embankment and is accessible as an event venue today. Visitors should check ahead for cultural programs, as the space is primarily used for scheduled concerts and performances.

The dining room holds ten genre paintings by Ernst Lipgart created specifically for this space in the style of 17th-century Dutch masters. These artworks are carefully integrated into the wall decorations of the room.
