Khrapovitskii bridge, Infrastructure bridge in Saint Petersburg, Russia

Khrapovitskii Bridge is a river crossing over the Neva that connects Kamennoostrovsky Prospect to Suvorov Square through nine structural sections. The construction uses a metallic riveted system that was advanced engineering for its time.

A French construction company built this crossing between 1897 and 1903 using innovative metal riveting techniques. This period marked a time when Saint Petersburg was expanding its bridge infrastructure to connect growing neighborhoods.

The bridge displays Art Nouveau details in its cast iron railings that you can observe as you cross. These decorative elements were chosen to match the style standards of the period when it was built.

The crossing accommodates both vehicles and pedestrians moving between the two sides of the river. During wet weather, the metal surfaces can become slippery, so take care when walking across.

Local history holds that Soviet pilot Valery Chkalov flew an aircraft under this bridge during the 1930s as a daring maneuver. The story has endured and remains a talking point among those familiar with the city.
