Mozhaysky District, Municipal district in Moscow Oblast, Russia
Mozhaysky District is an administrative region in western Moscow Oblast covering approximately 2,600 square kilometers with extensive forests and multiple river systems. The territory includes one main town, a work settlement, and several rural communities spread across more than 350 residential locations.
The district was established in 1929 with Mozhaysk designated as its administrative center. It developed into a substantial administrative region that has maintained local governance over decades.
The district maintains a Council of Deputies consisting of 17 elected representatives who serve five-year terms to manage local governance and community matters.
The area is best explored starting from Mozhaysk, which serves as the main town and primary gateway for visitors. Much of the landscape is forested, so routes and roads can be challenging to navigate.
The district contains the Mozhaysk Reservoir, a large artificial lake that feeds into four major rivers shaping the landscape. This water system creates varied terrain that offers diverse opportunities for exploration.
