Bashkir Nature Reserve, Nature reserve in Bashkortostan, Russia
The reserve extends across 1,226 thousand hectares between the Ural Mountains and Volga River at 685 meters above sea level in eastern Russia.
The Russian government established this protected area on July 11, 1930 to safeguard the regional biodiversity and natural resources of Bashkortostan.
The reserve represents the traditional lands of Bashkir people who have maintained connections to this territory through practices like wild beekeeping.
Visitors can observe numerous species of birds, mammals, and plants while engaging in activities such as hiking, birdwatching, and nature photography.
The reserve contains old-growth forests, limestone formations, and caves, including Sumgan Cave which stands as the largest cave system in the Urals.
