Drozhzhanovsky District, Municipal district in southwestern Tatarstan, Russia
Drozhzhanovsky is a municipal district in southwestern Tatarstan covering agricultural landscapes and forest areas. It encompasses 52 settlements organized into 19 rural localities, with Staroye Drozhzhanoye serving as the administrative center.
The district was established in 1930 and underwent several boundary changes over the decades. It took its present form in 1966 as part of Tatarstan's administrative structure.
The area is home to Tatars, Chuvash people, and Russians who together shape daily life in the villages. These different communities share the same spaces and influence how settlements develop and function.
Access to the district is easiest from the region's main city, and roads connect to neighboring areas. Visitors should plan routes in advance since villages are spread across the landscape and some roads may be less developed.
The name comes from the swampy conditions that produced a strong, yeast-like smell when people first settled the land. This distinctive feature of the soil gave the territory its name and reflects the natural conditions early inhabitants encountered.
