City of Artists is a housing complex in the Aeroport District featuring three connected residential buildings designed in rationalist architectural style. The ensemble extends along Upper Maslovka Street and integrates living quarters with purpose-built artist studios.

Construction of the complex began in 1930 during Moscow's period of rapid urban expansion, offering living spaces designed for Russian artists. The buildings emerged as expressions of modern design meant to unite everyday living with artistic creation.

The buildings are home to artists who work in studios with high ceilings and oversized windows designed to support their creative practices. These spaces have served as working homes for painters and sculptors for decades.

You can reach the complex most easily by taking the metro to Aeroport Station and then walking east along Leningradsky Prospekt toward Upper Maslovka Street. The walk takes about 10 to 15 minutes through a residential neighborhood.

The studios incorporate specialized northern-facing windows to provide consistent light for artistic work throughout the day. This deliberate design choice shows how carefully the original planners understood artists' practical needs.
