Zenit, Metro station in Krestovsky Island, Saint Petersburg, Russia
Zenit is a metro station on Krestovsky Island in Saint Petersburg, part of the green Nevsko-Vasileostrovskaya Line 3. It has two side platforms and sits between Begovaya and Primorskaya stations.
The station opened in 2018 under the name Novokrestovskaya and was renamed Zenit in 2020 following a request from FC Zenit Saint Petersburg. It is one of the newest stations in the Saint Petersburg metro network.
The station takes its name from FC Zenit, the local football club that plays its home games at the nearby Gazprom Arena. On match days, the platforms fill with supporters, making it one of the few metro stations in the city that changes its rhythm depending on the sports calendar.
The station has two separate entrances that are not always open at the same time, so it is worth checking which one is accessible before arriving. Crowds can be heavy on football match days, so arriving early or leaving promptly after a game helps avoid long waits.
Shortly after being renamed, the station was closed from 2020 to 2021 for a period longer than any other known interruption in its short history. This made it the only station in the network to spend more time shut than open in its first years of operation.
