This bronze monument stands ten meters tall in a square along Kurortny Prospekt, featuring a sculptural representation of the celebrated Soviet writer who spent his final years in this Black Sea resort city.

The monument was erected in 1979 by Leningrad sculptors V.E. Gorevy and S.A. Kubasov along with architect V.B. Bukhaev, replacing an earlier 1964 marble relief that had been criticized for its execution.
