Navaginskiy Fort

Navaginskiy Fort is a stone fortification on the Black Sea coast with walls and towers built according to nineteenth-century military engineering standards. The structure follows the principles of a defensive stronghold positioned to control access along the shoreline.

The fort was established in 1839 as Russia expanded its control into the Caucasus region. This period marked the beginning of intensified military presence along this stretch of coast.

The fort reflects Russia's imperial push southward and serves as a physical reminder of military control over this coastline. Walking through its structures, visitors sense how power was consolidated and maintained in a strategically important region.

The fort sits on the coastline and is easily accessible from central Sochi during the warmer months. Wear sturdy shoes since the grounds are uneven and include stairs leading down to the structure.
