Polsky garden, Garden and federal cultural heritage site in Admiralteysky District, Saint Petersburg, Russia.
Polsky Garden is a planted space with winding paths situated along the Fontanka River embankment in central Saint Petersburg. The grounds span several hectares and sit directly beside a Catholic Cathedral, creating a distinct setting within the urban landscape.
The site began as a private garden on an aristocratic estate along the Fontanka in the late 18th century. An architect later redesigned the layout, reshaping the pathways and planting schemes that defined the space.
The garden takes its name from the Polish community that settled nearby in the 19th century and worshiped at the adjacent Catholic Cathedral. Today, the peaceful pathways and planted spaces reflect this historical connection and create a setting shaped by cultural exchange.
The site welcomes visitors freely throughout the year and underwent major restoration work in the 2010s. Comfortable walking shoes are advisable since the pathways wind through the grounds and the terrain varies.
The space functions as an outdoor extension of the palace museum next door and hosts public gatherings, events, and photography sessions. This blend of historic building and open-air grounds makes it a multifaceted meeting place in the city.
