Théâtre Praktika

Théâtre Praktika is a contemporary theater in Moscow situated beneath street level in an underground space with modern facilities. The venue hosts experimental and innovative theatrical productions that challenge conventional approaches to drama and performance.

Founded in 2005, this theater became the first state theater in Russia dedicated exclusively to contemporary plays and New Russian Drama. Its establishment marked a turning point by creating a dedicated space for modern dramatic voices in the Russian theater landscape.

The theater removes productions from its schedule when they no longer connect with current social concerns, keeping the program deeply responsive to what matters now. This approach lets the space stay focused on reflecting contemporary issues that engage audiences today.

Located in central Moscow, the theater welcomes visitors daily and typically hosts performances during evening and nighttime hours. Allow extra time to locate the underground entrance and settle in before the show begins.

For its first eleven years, the theater operated without a permanent ensemble, relying instead on guest performers for each production. This unconventional arrangement allowed the venue to continuously introduce fresh talent and varied artistic perspectives.
