Zelenchukskaya RT-32, Radio telescope in Zelenchuksky District, Russia.
The Zelenchukskaya RT-32 is a 32-meter diameter radio telescope situated in the Caucasus Mountains at 1175 meters elevation. The instrument operates across frequencies from 1250 MHz to 34 GHz and can function as a standalone observer or link with other telescopes for coordinated research.
The telescope was established in 2001 by the Institute of Applied Astronomy as part of the Russian VLBI QUASAR network. The facility was created to conduct astronomical observations and represent Russia in international research initiatives.
The facility brings together researchers from around the world who collaborate on investigations into cosmic phenomena and share their findings with the global scientific community.
The facility is located in a remote mountain region, so reaching it requires a vehicle and local knowledge of the area. Visitors should know that the observatory is an active research center and access may be limited.
The telescope can observe below the horizon due to its special design, with a minimum elevation angle of negative 5 degrees. This rare capability allows observations under specific atmospheric conditions that most other telescopes cannot achieve.
