Teberda National Park

Teberda National Park is a protected area in the Northern Caucasus that encompasses mountain ranges, deep valleys, alpine meadows, and forest areas. The landscape includes multiple elevations with diverse habitats and various ecosystems throughout the territory.

Scientific study of the park's natural life began in 1878 when researchers documented its plant and animal communities. The documentation and research led to its official designation as a protected area in 1936.

Mountain herding communities have lived in these valleys for centuries and continue their traditional practices today. Visitors can observe how local peoples interact with the land and maintain their customs in this region.

Entry to the park requires permits that can be obtained at the town of Teberda before accessing the trails and facilities. Planning ahead is important since weather and seasonal conditions affect which areas and activities are accessible throughout the year.

The park is home to rare animals and plants listed in the Russian Red Book that exist nowhere else in the world, including the Caucasian chamois and endemic mountain flowers. These species are one of the main reasons naturalists come to study and observe the territory.
