Памятник обезьянам, Research primate monument at Mount Trapezium in Sukhumi, Georgia

The bronze monument weighs 1.5 tons and features a seated baboon named Murray, with disease names engraved on its pedestal.

The monument was installed in 1977 to mark the 50th anniversary of the primate research facility and sustained bullet damage during the 1992-1993 war.

The sculpture recognizes primates' contributions to medical research in developing vaccines against polio, yellow fever, typhus, malaria, and tuberculosis.

The monument stands at the Institute of Experimental Pathology and Therapy of the Abkhazian Academy of Sciences, accessible to visitors.

Murray, depicted in the statue, was a real hamadryas baboon who served as a respected leader in the research facility's primate colony.
