The Selifontovskiy burial ground is a memorial cemetery featuring multiple graves extending about 2 meters (6 feet) deep with recovered personal items scattered throughout. Archaeologists found shoes, clothing, and everyday objects preserved within the earth, providing tangible evidence of those laid to rest here.
In October 1938, 187 individuals including workers, farmers, clergy, and engineers were executed at this location during the Great Terror. This mass killing reflected the brutal suppression campaigns that characterized that dangerous period in history.
