Sochi State Сircus, Circus building in Khostinsky district, Sochi, Russia.
The Sochi State Circus is a circus building in the Khostinsky district of Sochi, Russia, with a circular arena and high ceilings that allow for aerial acts. The venue seats around 2,000 people and is equipped with specialized lighting to support a range of performances.
The building opened in 1971 and was awarded the USSR State Prize for its architecture, designed by Yu. L. Shvartsbreim. The famous performer Yu. V. Nikulin was closely involved in bringing the project to completion.
The facade is decorated with mosaic artworks by A. N. Skripnikov, and a frieze with masks by sculptor V. I. Glukhov frames the entrance. These elements are visible from the street and give the building a look unlike most other circus venues.
The circus is open year-round, and tickets can be bought at the box office or online through the official website. Arriving a little early gives you time to look around the building and its decorated exterior before the show begins.
Before the 2014 Winter Olympics, the building went through a full renovation that updated both its technical equipment and interior facilities. This work allowed the venue to welcome productions that meet current international standards.
