Khvalynsky National Park, Nature reserve in Saratov Oblast, Russia.
Khvalynsky National Park is a nature reserve in Saratov Oblast featuring chalk hills along the Volga River. The landscape displays mixed forests of oak and linden trees alongside coniferous woodlands, with elevations reaching about 369 meters at the highest points.
The park was established in 1994 to protect the Khvalynsk Mountains region. This area contains geological layers from ancient ocean floors and natural limestone deposits that formed over millions of years.
The park's museum called Derevenskoe Podvorye displays tools, household items, and craft techniques from villages surrounding the Volga. You can see how local people lived and worked in past times through these objects and their arrangement.
The park offers guided tours through Khvalinskoe safari experiences and overnight stays in family-run guesthouses. Information centers located in recreation zones help visitors plan their time and find the areas they want to explore.
The park is home to around 1,200 beetle species from over 70 families, several of which had never been recorded in the region before. This high diversity makes the area an important research site for studying insects.
