Church of the Protection of the Theotokos

The Church of the Protection of the Theotokos is a stone structure with striking red brick walls and blue cupolas visible from a distance. The interior features a main altar flanked by two side altars dedicated to Saint Nicholas and Saint Sergius of Radonezh.

Construction of this stone church began in 1899 thanks to donations from local residents and merchants and was completed and consecrated in 1903. This establishment during the late imperial period made it an important religious landmark of its era.

The church functions as a gathering place where local residents observe Orthodox Christian traditions and participate in weekly liturgical services. It anchors the spiritual life of the community and welcomes visitors who wish to experience its religious practices.

The church is located in Cherkizovo in Pushkinsky District and remains open for services and visits, with regular liturgies held throughout the week. Arriving during service times allows visitors to observe the religious life respectfully while ceremonies are underway.

The building once served as a rehearsal space for celebrated operatic tenor Fyodor Shalyapin, who sang in the church choir. This unexpected connection between classical music and religious practice gives the church a special place in the region's cultural history.
