Gorelovo

Gorelovo is a historic district in the southwestern part of Saint Petersburg, stretching across residential areas with multi-story apartment buildings and private houses. The neighborhood blends different housing types, from larger residential blocks to smaller family homes, creating a varied living environment.

The first mention of this district dates back to 1721, when construction of the Ligovsky Canal began to supply water to the Summer Garden fountains. The area later developed into a center for Soviet technology and scientific innovation.

The neighborhood houses several religious buildings, including the Buddhavihara temple built in 2006, which reflects the diverse communities living here. This religious presence shapes daily life and shows how different groups have made this place their home.

The main transport route runs along Krasnoselskoye Highway with numerous bus services and two railway stations. These connections provide straightforward access to central Saint Petersburg.

The district once hosted military training grounds and an aerodrome, which later became a testing site for Soviet space research. Soviet scientists developed and tested the Lunokhod moon rover here, a landmark in early space exploration.
