Merchant House Genç-Oglueva

Merchant House Genç-Oglueva is a residential building on Bolshaya Sadovaya Street in Rostov-on-Don that combines various architectural styles in its design. The exterior features elaborate window frames with decorative moldings and ornate wall surfaces that blend different aesthetic elements throughout the structure.

The building was constructed from 1902 to 1905 under the support of tobacco magnate Ilya Davidovich Pigit. Following the 1917 revolution, ownership changed and the structure entered the Soviet period under different use.

The building reflects how wealthy merchants displayed their success through elaborate architectural details during the early 20th century. The ornate exterior and decorative elements were typical of how the merchant class demonstrated their prosperity in the region at that time.

The building is located in the central part of Rostov-on-Don and can be easily viewed while walking through the historic district. The ornamental details on the facade are best observed from across the street, where the full architectural features become more visible.

In 1938, the front fence and parts of the facade were removed during street expansion projects that reshaped the building's appearance. This modification reflected broader urban transformation efforts that were happening across the city at that time.
