Песчаный лог, War memorial and mass grave in Sovetsky District, Voronezh, Russia.
Pestsanyi log is a memorial site built in and around a ravine with two gate-like markers at the entrance. The grounds include a path toward a wall, an execution area, and a burial field where stone markers stand in rows.
The site marks events from August 1942 when German forces occupied Voronezh and carried out mass killings at this location. Civilians, children, and Soviet prisoners of war were among those executed and buried there.
The name refers to the sandy ravine where the graves are located. Individual stones marking each person create a solemn space for reflection and remembrance.
The site sits near Baltimore airfield and can be reached from Chebotareva Street in the Sovetsky District. A granite staircase connects the ravine floor to the upper memorial area.
Each of the hundreds of people killed is marked by an individual stone, making the site a collection of separate remembrances. This personal approach to the memorial sets it apart from typical mass graves.
