Port Sudan, Primary seaport city on the Red Sea coast, Sudan

Port Sudan features L-shaped docks extending into the Red Sea, with modern container terminals handling 90 percent of Sudan's international trade operations.

The British administration constructed Port Sudan between 1905 and 1909 to replace Suakin's port, which faced difficulties with coral formations.

The population includes Arab and Nubian Sudanese residents, Beja people, West Africans, and small groups of Asians and Europeans living near the waterfront.

The Port Sudan Fish Market opens in early morning hours where customers can purchase fresh catches and have them prepared at nearby cooking stations.

The surrounding waters contain multiple diving locations, including Sha'ab Rumi and Wingate Reef, where visitors observe manta rays and hammerhead sharks.
