Engelsberg Ironworks, Industrial heritage site in Fagersta Municipality, Sweden

Engelsberg Ironworks is a complex of multiple buildings including a blast furnace, smithies, and a manor house set in a large landscape. The site shows a complete system for iron production with all necessary workshops and living quarters for the workforce.

The site was founded in 1681 and grew into one of Sweden's most advanced iron production facilities. It shaped the country's industrial development and influenced manufacturing methods across Northern Europe.

The site tells the story of Swedish iron production and what it meant for the region and its people. The buildings show how workers and craftspeople spent their days here and how central this work was to the area's growth.

The site is best explored with a guided tour, as it explains the layout and functions of the different buildings. Wear sturdy shoes and allow time to walk through the entire grounds.

The blast furnace and all technical equipment remain in their original state and show the complete iron-making process. Visitors can see how ore was processed and ultimately turned into finished products in the workshops.
