Padjelanta National Park, National park in Norrbotten County, Sweden.

Padjelanta National Park is a protected area spanning vast high plains dotted with large lakes and rounded mountains beneath snow-capped peaks along the Norwegian border. The landscape mixes open plateaus with alpine terrain and forms one of the country's largest mountain environments.

The park was established in 1962 to protect Sweden's largest alpine environment and its natural diversity. This founding marked a turning point in conservation and recognized the value of this remote region officially.

The park serves as summer grazing land for Sami reindeer herds, and visitors can observe herders managing their animals across the high plains. This working landscape reflects a way of life that has connected people to these mountains for generations.

The park has no road access, so visitors need to plan for at least half a day of hiking to reach it and experience its remote character. Summer offers the easiest conditions for travel and better access to trails.

During summer the park experiences the midnight sun, when sunlight persists through the night. In winter the landscape enters extended twilight with a characteristic blue-tinted glow.
