Lisebergbanan, Steel roller coaster in Liseberg amusement park, Sweden
Lisebergbanan is a steel roller coaster at Liseberg amusement park in Gothenburg, reaching about 45 meters at its highest point with a track close to 1.5 kilometers long. The track runs through the entire park, with lifts, drops, and turns that follow one after another in quick succession.
The coaster opened in April 1987, built through a collaboration between manufacturers Zierer and Anton Schwarzkopf. It was one of the first modern steel coasters in Sweden and changed the character of the park significantly.
The ride winds through the whole park, making it visible from many spots across the grounds. For locals in Gothenburg, Liseberg and this coaster are closely connected, and riding it has been a shared experience for generations of visitors.
The ride is very popular and lines can build up quickly, so arriving early or choosing a quieter day will make a real difference. Since the track runs across the whole park, you can get a good sense of the ride from many spots before you queue.
After a chain lift malfunction in 2006, the ride was fitted with safety improvements that went beyond what was standard at the time. This means the coaster now runs with systems that are more advanced than most other rides built in the same era.
