Söderåsen National Park, National park in Skåne County, Sweden
Söderåsen National Park sits on a raised plateau in northern Skåne, where narrow valleys slice through dense deciduous woods to form steep ravines dropping up to 90 meters (295 feet). Broad beech forests alternate with oak groves and damp streams that tumble over moss-covered stones.
The land was farmed for centuries before gaining national park status in 2001. This designation secured one of northern Europe's largest continuous forest areas from further development.
The Naturum Visitor Centre in Skäralid presents exhibitions about local geology, flora, fauna, and regional traditions throughout the seasons.
Two main entrances at Skäralid and Röstånga lead to over 25 kilometers (15.5 miles) of marked hiking trails threading through the terrain. Bus line 518 connects both entrances to surrounding towns.
The small round lake Odensjön sits in the middle of the woods and takes its name from the Norse god Odin. Its water reaches down 19 meters (62 feet) and reflects the steep slopes all around.
