Stenkvista runestone, Norse runestone at Stenkvista Church, Sweden

The Stenkvista runestone stands roughly 2.2 meters tall near Stenkvista Church and displays carved runic inscriptions along with a representation of Thor's hammer Mjöllnir. The stone shows the craftsmanship of its carver through the arrangement of text and symbolic imagery.

This runestone originally lay embedded in the floor of the old parish church until its removal in 1794 during construction of a new building. Moving it to its current location preserved the stone for future generations and gave it new prominence in the churchyard.

Three brothers commissioned this memorial to honor their father Tjudmund, reflecting how families used runestones to preserve important names and connections. The carved hammer symbol shows the religious beliefs that mattered to them at the time.

The stone sits in the churchyard beside the building and remains accessible year-round as an outdoor monument. It is located about two kilometers east of Skogstorp, making it convenient to visit during a stop in the area.

The runemaster used distinctive dots to separate words in the runic text, a thoughtful detail that gave structure to the inscription. This decorative technique reveals the carver's individual approach and distinguishes this stone from many others carved during the same period.
