Husby-Rekarne Church

Husby-Rekarne Church is a Romanesque structure in Eskilstuna Municipality with vaulted ceilings decorated with medieval paintings depicting scenes from Jesus' life. The grounds include several buildings such as a parish house from the 1700s, a former church stable, and a converted school that now serves as a gathering space for the community.

The church was built in the 1100s and was gradually expanded between the 1300s and 1700s with the addition of new spaces. Each phase of growth brought a sacristy, porch, crypt, and bell tower that remain visible today.

The church contains religious objects from different periods, including a painted baptismal font and carved altar pieces that show the work of artisans across generations. These pieces served as focal points for worship and prayer for centuries.

The grounds are open for visitors to explore both the main church and the various outbuildings on the property. It is worth spending time inside to view the interior paintings and see how the different buildings relate to one another spatially.

The building appears modest from outside like a typical country church, but its interior reveals layers of artistic work spanning multiple centuries. This contrast between humble exterior and rich interior decoration makes a visit surprisingly rewarding.
