Magelungen, Lake near Farsta district, Sweden
Magelungen is a water body located between Stockholm and Huddinge municipalities, covering approximately 245 hectares with an average depth of around 5 meters. The lake features several shoreline areas including designated swimming zones and natural sections that are regularly used by visitors throughout the year.
The lake has been documented since the 1500s under the name Målången and gradually became a location for water sports activities. The site developed rowing facilities that later hosted regional competitions and seasonal events.
Multiple recreational clubs organize fishing schools and holiday events, enabling entire school classes to experience outdoor activities throughout the year.
Several swimming areas such as Farsta strandbad and Ågesta naturistbad provide access to the water for swimmers with different preferences. Some shoreline sections feature accessible pathways and bridges that make exploring the lake easier.
The waters contain elevated levels of a specific chemical substance that makes consuming certain fish species unsafe. Crayfish, however, do not absorb these substances and remain safe to eat for those interested in local harvesting.
