Tegnérlunden, Public park in Norrmalm, Sweden
Tegnérlunden is a park located at the border between Norrmalm and Vasastan districts in central Stockholm, featuring winding paths, mature trees, and perennial gardens. The northern section includes a pergola surrounded by flower beds, while the southern area provides a playground and multiple seating areas for visitors.
The park underwent a major redesign in 1940 by landscape architect Erik Glemme, who added a fountain pavilion and an artificial stream to the site. This renovation shaped the layout that visitors experience today.
Two bronze sculptures by notable artists define the character of the space: Carl Eldh created a monument to August Strindberg in 1942, while Maja Lisa Alexandersson added a statue of Astrid Lindgren in 1996. These works give the space a connection to Swedish literature and cultural figures.
The park is easy to walk through with clear pathways that connect different sections, and multiple entrances make it accessible from different directions. The best time to visit is during the warmer months when the gardens are in bloom and seating areas are most comfortable.
The location inspired Astrid Lindgren's book 'Mio min Mio', where the main character encounters a magical being in this very setting. This literary connection ties the park to a significant work of Swedish children's literature.
