Masthamnen

Masthamnen is an industrial harbor zone in Stockholm that serves as a major freight and vessel hub. The area contains multiple piers and storage facilities where ferries, cargo ships, and trucks are regularly processed.

The area received its name in 1925 as a reference to its former use as a storage yard for timber used in mast production. Since then it has developed into one of the city's most significant harbor terminals.

Viking Line cruise ferries operate from Masthamnen while international cruise ships dock at Yttre Masthamnen, connecting Stockholm to maritime transportation networks.

The area is accessible by public transportation and offers footpaths along the waterfront with good views of harbor operations. The best time to visit is during daytime when freight activities are most active and the area displays its working rhythm.

Future development plans envision wooden skyscrapers using cross-laminated timber to reduce environmental impact. These sustainable projects would give the traditional industrial area a completely new appearance.
