Anstalten Malmö Kirseberg, Correctional facility in Kirseberg, Sweden
Anstalten Malmö Kirseberg is a correctional facility located in the northern part of Malmö that functioned as an institutional complex with residential and work areas. The building was designed as a self-contained compound to house and manage its population within a structured environment.
The facility was designed by architect Gustaf Lindgren in 1914 and replaced an earlier prison housed at Malmöhus Castle. It stood as the last cell-system prison constructed according to that particular architectural model in Sweden.
The institution integrated rehabilitation programs through music sessions with instructors from Music College and regular religious services from local churches.
The facility is located in the northern part of the city and can be accessed from various directions. Visitors should check current access conditions beforehand, as the site's use and status may have changed.
In 2017, the corrections authority transferred the property to MKB Fastighets AB, a municipal housing company. This transfer marked the beginning of the former prison's conversion into residential housing for the city.
