Dicksonska palatset, 19th-century mansion at Parkgatan, Gothenburg, Sweden
Dicksonska palatset is a three-story mansion built in Florentine Neo-Renaissance style at the intersection of Södra Vägen and Nya Allén in Gothenburg. The building features ornate exterior details and spacious interiors with high ceilings and elaborate decorative elements throughout its rooms.
English architect William Allen Boulnois designed this residence in 1862 for Baron Oscar Dickson on a site formerly occupied by the Hallska barracks. The location transitioned from a public institutional space to a private noble residence during the 19th century's urban transformation.
The palace served as the Margareta School from 1923, providing culinary education and operating a restaurant that charged 1.25 kronor for dinner during the 1920s.
The building has been open to visitors since summer 2024 and houses a restaurant along with two bars located in the restored orangery spaces. Multiple areas throughout the structure offer different experiences, including a wine bar in the basement that provides a separate setting from the main levels.
The building incorporates English architectural elements such as ceramic floors and a main staircase that were imported directly from England during construction. These international design choices reflect the transatlantic connections and aesthetic preferences of its original owner and the architect.
