Stora Nygatan 17 ½, Neo-Rococo building in Inom Vallgraven, Sweden.
Stora Nygatan 17 ½ is a three-story stone building with white and gold ornaments on its facade, located in Inom Vallgraven. The interior features Neo-Rococo styling that is especially prominent in its grand salon with decorative details throughout.
The building was commissioned in 1856 by August Abrahamson as part of a larger complex that included the main Gothenburg Synagogue. Its construction marked the development of an important community center during that period.
The grand salon displays ornamental details that reflect the tastes of wealthy households during the mid-1800s. These decorative choices reveal how people of that era expressed status and refinement through their living spaces.
The building now operates as a psychiatric reception facility connected to Sahlgrenska Hospital. Multiple floors contain consultation rooms, so layout and access may vary depending on current operations.
The address came into being through a special arrangement where two properties were given a single number with the unusual designation 17 ½. This makes it the only complete address of this kind in Gothenburg.
