Frölunda kulturhus, Community center in Frölunda, Sweden
Frölunda kulturhus is a public cultural building in Gothenburg that combines a municipal library, theater, swimming pool, and indoor sports halls across multiple floors. The facilities are distributed throughout the building and serve different recreational and cultural purposes.
The building opened its doors in March 1980 and replaced a temporary library pavilion that had served the area since 1965. The facility was designed from the start with roughly 70 different activities and continued to expand afterward.
The center houses the Figure and Puppet Theater Center, which regularly organizes performances and workshops for visitors. This facility draws people interested in puppet theater and performing arts.
Access to the building is straightforward, and different departments are clearly marked. Visitors should note that different areas may have different opening hours, so checking beforehand is worthwhile.
The main entrance features a wide staircase called Kulturtrappan that directly connects the building to Frölunda Square. This staircase serves not only as access but also as a social meeting point and natural gathering place for the neighborhood.
