Hotell Kramer, building in Malmö Municipality, Scania, Skåne County, Sweden
Hotell Kramer is a hotel and historic building in central Malmö located at Stortorget. It offers 113 rooms along with restaurant and bar facilities and is now operated by Scandic Hotels.
The original building was based on Ficks Hôtel, which opened around 1830, before Anna and Fritz Kramer took over in 1868. The current structure was built between 1875 and 1878 from designs by architect Carl Ferdinand Rasmussen, inspired by Loire Valley castles.
The name Kramer honors the German founders Anna and Fritz Kramer, who took over the hotel in 1868 and shaped its identity. Its location on Stortorget makes it a natural gathering point where locals and visitors pass through daily, blending into the rhythm of city life.
The hotel is easy to explore on foot and within walking distance of shops, cafes, and historic sights in the old town. It offers elevators, 24-hour reception, gym, sauna, and solarium facilities for guests.
During World War II, hotel guests managed to arrange for famous singer Karl Gerhard to perform a song opposing the Nazis, marking a moment of quiet resistance. Later, the hotel operated a basement nightclub called Sulan, where visitors enjoyed music late into the night.
