Johannes brandstation, Fire station in Södra Adolf Fredrik, Stockholm, Sweden.
Johannes brandstation is a fire station in Stockholm's central Södra Adolf Fredrik district. Designed by architects Axel Fredrik Nyström and Ferdinand Boberg, it combines administrative offices with operational areas for firefighting services.
The station opened in 1878 and initially housed fourteen horses for firefighting operations. These animals were completely replaced by motor vehicles by 1916.
The building demonstrates how Stockholm's fire service became embedded in city life as a symbol of modern emergency response. Its central location made it a reassuring presence for residents seeking prompt assistance.
The site is easily accessible by public transport and sits in a well-connected part of downtown Stockholm. Visitors should note that this is an active facility where access may be restricted.
It is Stockholm's second oldest fire station after Katarina brandstation. The former horse stables were later converted into repair workshops for motor vehicles.
