Saga, Art Deco movie theater in Stockholm, Sweden
Saga is an Art Deco movie theater in central Stockholm with a glass facade and three separate screening rooms. The interior features mahogany panels and concealed lighting installations that create the refined design throughout the space.
The cinema opened its doors in February 1937 and was designed by architect Adrian Langendal. Swedish royalty attended the inaugural ceremony, marking the venue as an important cultural opening.
The Anglais screening room features custom-made curtains decorated with Mayan and Aztec patterns that add artistic character to the movie experience. These original design elements remain part of the room's identity today.
The theater is located centrally at Kungsgatan 24 and is easy to reach on foot. The three screening rooms come in different sizes to accommodate different group preferences and viewing experiences.
The original entrance canopy was decorated with 18-carat gold leaf, giving the facade exceptional elegance. The interior lighting system was designed with around 900 individual light bulbs to create a layered illumination effect.
