Sergelhuset, Commercial building near Sergels Torg, Stockholm, Sweden.
Sergelhuset is a major commercial complex in central Stockholm consisting of three interconnected structures arranged around a public plaza. The buildings house retail shops, restaurants, offices, and other commercial spaces across multiple levels with direct street access.
The complex originated in the 1960s and underwent major renovation in the 2020s while preserving its original concrete structure. This decision to retain the existing framework was driven by efforts to minimize carbon emissions during the modernization process.
The renovated building connects multiple urban levels through a staircase, integrating Sergels Torg plaza with the surrounding streets for improved pedestrian movement.
The buildings are easy to navigate thanks to connecting passages and stairs that allow visitors to move between different levels and sections. Many areas are openly accessible, so you can freely explore the various shops, restaurants, and public spaces throughout the complex.
During renovation, granite stones from the original facade were removed, cleaned, and reused in new outer cladding systems. This circular approach shows how material from the original design was integrated into the building's updated exterior.
