Tomtebodaskolan, Educational institution in Tomteboda, Sweden
Tomtebodaskolan is a specialized educational institution located in Tomteboda north of Stockholm that opened in 1888 to serve visually impaired students. The campus included modern facilities such as a gymnasium and swimming hall designed to support students with various needs.
The school was founded in 1879 as a specialized institution for visually impaired students and relocated to purpose-built premises in 1888. School operations continued there until 2001 when the resource center relocated to Campus Konradsberg on Kungsholmen.
This school served as a significant center for visually impaired students and shaped community life in the area. Photographer Sten Didrik Bellander documented how students learned and interacted here through powerful black and white images.
The main building is located on Campus Solna with accessible facilities including a gymnasium and swimming area. Visitors should know that since 2005 the building has been occupied by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control and no longer operates as a school.
From 2005 to 2018 the main building housed the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, which monitored health matters across Europe. This transformation shows how the location shifted from an educational center to a significant hub for public health oversight.
