Östra Arningefortet, Bauwerk in Schweden
Östra Arningefortet is a concrete military structure built before World War I, located in a forested area east of Täby. The structure features a distinctive T-shaped design with a curved roof and contains several small gun openings for defensive purposes.
The fort was built and handed to the military by landowner Carl Robert Lamm in 1915, with King Gustaf V attending the official opening. It was part of the Korvlinjen defense line that stretched about 25 kilometers to protect Stockholm from potential land attacks.
The fort was part of Stockholm's defense strategy and reflects early 20th-century military thinking about protecting the city. Visitors can see today how the thick concrete walls and small gun openings shaped the way soldiers used and experienced the space.
The fort is located in a forested area behind the Elgiganten shopping center in Arninge and is not easy to find without knowing where to look. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes and be prepared for overgrown paths and structures with no formal entrance.
The fort gets its shape-based nickname 'Korv,' which means sausage in Swedish, referring to the rounded roof design. Unlike its sister fort Västra Arningefortet, this structure was never restored and remains in a state of decay, held up only by a few metal bars supporting the heavy roof.
